Let me introduce myself...

Hello
My name is Sue and I was born in Buckinghamshire, England. After raising three daughters and working in the 'rat race'my husband and I decided to take a giant step in the dark, risk everything and move to a smallholding in West Wales which is a bit like stepping back in time thirty years. The pace of life is slower, people speak to strangers and you do not have to lock doors. We left our two oldest daughters ( who had lives of their own) in England and dragged our seven year old daughter with us.We also brought along two dogs, a cat, a guinea pig and two tortoises.
We have been here for over nine years now and lots of unexpected things have happened.
Now we have two pigs called Polly and Belinda, six sheep, Cadbury, Delilah, Sally and Speckle are Welsh mountain crosses and Alice and Blodwyn are rare breed Soays. We also have three indian runner ducks and two hens (Jane and Gloria) along with their cockeral, Malcombe. I will post pictures of  some of the animals soon.
The most surprising   aspect of our life here to me is the opportunities I have had. I have always made things, usually textile based. I made my first rag rug at the age of thirteen. Later on I made Quilts and then my attention turned to felt making. Several years ago I decided to see if I could sell any of my felts at a craft fair. Mainly as an excuse to make more and pay for materials. Much to my suprise people liked and bought them. Since then I have also qualified as an adult education tutor with the university of Wales. I even worked for them for a while giving rag rug and feltmaking workshops in the community. A few years ago I would never have dreamed that I would be a tutor for a university.
Over the last sixish years I have been selling felts at craft fairs, in shops, hotels and restaurants as well as exhibiting and selling my work in galleries.I usually exhibit with my friend and fellow felter Ali but am also a member of Celf Canolbath Cymru and exhibit with them as well.I share a web site with Ali. Have a look at www.sualitextiles.co.uk .
I have started this blog to share my smallholding and felt making experiences with you .
